What a euphemism. Some of it does fade. But most of it rots... dies... Falls back into the dirt.

You built a house? It will be bulldozed and replaced.

Your children? They will die. And some may even curse you on their deathbed.

Any earthly treasures you have laid up will rot. Will be replaced. And forgotten.

Like private keys. Lost. Forgotten. If not by you then by someone else.
