In real life there is the force of the state and I’m questioning if relays can be legally liable for lacking in censorship of these things.

That's really it; they can't. There's no way to censor anything in the protocol just like there's no way to censor people's video cameras and flash drives. We can't look for a top down central or universal solution that automatically eliminates a specific class of content, just a cultural and social one where CP is hunted down and eradicated wherever it pops up because it's morally reprehensible.

Technology doesn't fix human problems. The CP argument has been leveled against every rising communications technology, but that's not the realm in which the problem can be solved. It's a social issue that needs a cultural solution.

You’re right I’ve seen the CP argument used against things like AES 256 encryption and all sorts of stuff like that I’m not supporting that. Obviously the state has to do something to help deter the spread of CP but attacking protocols isn’t the way to go. At this point it’s wackamole.

I guess I was more expressing concern that government scrutiny would follow but with your rely I realize how by that logic we would have to look at a bunch of other stuff, which definitely hasn’t happened yet.

I think that there should absolutely laws and enforcement against it with good ways to detect and track down networks of CP.

There are other ways too, like resurgence of close family units where children are well looked after, better incentives to prevent children from entering orphanhood and the foster system, clamp downs on trafficking from foreign nations. What's technology ever going to do about any of that? I think the only one that has a chance is #bitcoin by being a root layer salve to the way people see life and their roles in society.

I can definitely agree with all of that. That kind of exploitation has to be addressed at the root cause first of all.
