These alarms are handy, but often mean some fun or not so fun times ahead.

Storms in my area caused a huge downpour. I immediately check the basement and there lots of water. I check the basement door and see a small trickle. Without properly thinking I open it and a few inches of water come pouring in. I quickly shut it, run back upstairs and to the stairwell in the back that has a sump pump. It's not running, and I know it works because I just cleaned it all up and tested it a month and a half ago. I look down with a flashlight and there's a good 6 inches above the base line up about an inch of the door.

Dog is chasing me all around frantic because he sees me moving quickly all over with stuff he's not familiar with.

I go back inside and down to the basement and grab my shop vac. Drag it outside to try to siphon some water and it's not got any suction. Dog is now all over under my feet and just generally in the way as he's trying to stay close thinking we're going somewhere.

I take shopvac and dog back inside in the light to look at and the hose has some gunk in it. I manage to get that out. Use the shop vac inside to suck up some water for well over an hour filling it 9 times. I see a break in the rain and take it outside again to work on the stairwell and sump pit. This goes faster as the waters all in one place. Fill up the vac 5 times and dumping the water out in the alley where rain drains off. Check the pump, I run it directly, works just fine. I let that run a few minutes to get lower and then I see the issue. The float got lodged against the wall, so couldn't rise to trigger the pump to turn on. I kind of hate this design.

I get things dried enough to get the AC to be able to turn back on again. Also setup the dehumidifier. Humidity level was up to 80%. Not good. I'm beat and tired. Just got out of the shower and calling it a night.
