PSA: If you renote/repost or post a series of notes in the span of just a few minutes it is effectively spamming the feed of your followers and is frowned upon. Some will mute for this.
You are strongly encouraged to space out notes over time. For regular (e.g. daily) renoters, consider automating the process.

On a serious note:
Why haven't clients replaced "follow" with "add to list" and offer list selection in place of a global feed? Then we have friends lists. Not sure why this isn't talked about more, considering we now have "parametrized replaceable lists."
