The only right side to be on is the side of all the non-political people on both sides who don't want their neighborhoods bombed.

It's not equivalent. Hamas butchered civilians simply because they were Jews.
Not everyone who lives in Gaza supports Hamas, but they suffer just the same. Warfare is usually carried out by a violent minority while the peaceful majority on both sides suffers.
