Every time I find a client that I like, the developer packs it full of features until it's unusable.

Agreed.

I frequently find myself frustrated that clients are more focused on adding new stuff than making perfect what already exists (or even removing stuff). It's a race to the most bloated and least functional product when you're constantly competing on how much shit you can pack in.

I just want something efficient and reliable. I still can't tag people in Amethyst, for example, without a crash and I don't think picking from a list of approved keyboards is a solution at all.

I've encountered many examples on several clients of basic functionality not working and the devs are still focused on adding more features.

I don't see how this will be a winning strategy.

Like politicians creating useless laws to stay relevant and get their paychecks, funded devs will will work on features they otherwise would not.

Free money scews incentives.

Follow the money.

It’s almost like a metaphor for life.
