Russia will spend $500 million to enhance internet filters and block the use of VPNs. Vladimir Putin's goal is to completely disconnect Russia from the global internet, connecting it to a sort of national intranet known as Rusnet. To achieve this, Apple and Google online stores were forced to remove VPN apps. In Brazil, the Supreme Court attempted something similar, but the strong negative backlash forced them to reverse the decision to remove VPN apps from online stores.
