Dementia is a terrible thing. My grandmother has it. Everytime i visit her it's heartbreaking. I came to the realization a while back that she's not the same person she used to be, that person is already gone, so I have to mourn a person who is still alive.

Have you thought about what makes you, you? If your memories were erased would you be the same person? Your "you", it's not the physical form you're using to interact with the world – it's your mind.

My heart goes out to your family. We lost my mother-in-law in 2021 to Alzheimer’s. She fought for 10 years after being diagnosed in her early 59s. Just the worst. 🫂

I feel your pain dude. My 95 year old grandmother has suffered the same fate and we couldn't deal with her outbursts anymore as a family. Even though we know they're not really coming from her heart, half of us think that maybe these outbursts have been stuck inside her for a long time and now its just the filter that has been removed.
