The difference good soil makes.

The 4 potato growing bags on the right were planted 1 month after the bags on the left, but are nearly twice the size. The bags on the left have quality Wilco garden soil with compost. But the 4 on the right have soil that was 4 inches below the surface of our chicken run.

Does it matter how deep the soil is during a nuclear winter🤔??

yes! I'm looking forward to next year with wayyy better soil. It's amazing how much of a difference the quality of the soil makes.

I love experiments like these. Last year I used rotten wood of alder trees. The ones that are hollowed out but still standing. I scooped up all of “compost wood” from the base and hollowed hole and used that as potting soil and most things grew well in just that, but when I added half chicken compost to the mix it was the best results I had have ever seen.

That is actually pretty much what is in there. Our property has a lot hole lot of alder trees.

That is one of the things I like about you. You’re an explorer. Too many experts out there who don’t do anything.
