"What we do in life echoes in eternity."

–Gladiator

Not sure I am on board with this as a blanket statement. Not all decisions have equal echoes through time. Also, “compounding” as a word applied to decisions probably needs some clarification in this context. It’s often used in the financial world to describe a mathematical phenomenon involving interest. Typically human choices defy mathematical rules, especially when applied to choices and resulting consequences. It’s true that the impact of some decisions can be felt vividly15 years on, but some decisions have no impact whatsoever. I think I get what you are trying to highlight, I not sure it’s cut and dry life principle! Cheers.

I agree with this clarification. As an overthinker, I tend to give WAY too much importance to every choice, action and word of mine - often things that don’t deserve that level of mental energy. It’s important to recognize what truly echoes and shapes our lives, but it’s equally vital to find peace in knowing what doesn’t - what isn’t entirely our responsibility and what mostly exists in our minds.

Learning not to be too hard on ourselves can be life-saving.
