It is extremely well known. The placenta has an extremely important job and gives the baby its very best. The baby needs this segway from the just being born to trying to adjust to the outside world. Precious minutes are critical. ❤️

More research and you will find tons of people who support leaving the cord attached as long as possible, just like nature intended. ❤️

In nature would it just fall off with time?

Yes, though it might take a while and could be inconvenient, but, once the blood is transferred, I don't see the harm in cutting it and tying off the end until the body deals with it in its own time

If it fell off naturally would there be a belly button still?

Yes.

Yes it shrivels up and gets hard. You don’t have to wait that long, but for gods sake let the placenta give its super good gifts to the baby first.
