Do I need the alby go app if I have my wallet in BlueWallet? Does alby go do anything special?

IMO it's a much simpler, faster and reliable UX, specially if you're using Alby Hub.

Alby Go uses NWC, which can have budgets set up, expiry time, permissions can be edited and can use subwallets

BlueWallet uses LNDhub. Beware that both are *just* interfaces to a lightning node
