Looked at ejabberd and Elixir/ Phoenix framework after couple of years and whoa, that's a lot of interesting work they've pulled off in the meanwhile!

You can basically write your own federated, secure social network by adding ejabberd as a dependency to your Phoenix project, add your front end and API calls to ejabberd and there you are‽

Itching to give this a whirl but mind isn't in the right space at the moment. Maybe in a week or so.
