I don't understand the point of being NIP-05 verified on a domain you aren't associated with it. For example jack@cash.app let's me know it's the real Jack at CashApp. But whats the benefit of having a pete@nostrplebs.com ? What am I missing?

you aren't a nostr pleb?

Someone can use your exact username and profile picture etc and impersonate you. If you were verified you would be the only Pete that is a Nostrpleb NIP-05 verified

R u sure?

Well ya Nobody else can be bitcoinonlypleb@nostrplebs it’s already taken by me. That’s how that works,no?

Someone can do that now. They can take anyone's picture and name and register on nostrpleb. I thought the whole point of getting NIP-05 verified was that you control your verification on your own domain.

I never felt right until my nip05 was on my own domain.

It's not meant to be a verifier. It's an identifier.

Can be used as a verifier let's say if you control the domain. But people would need to associate that domain with your real life person.

I mean i can buy pete . red while you own pete . com and copy your Nostr profile.

People would need to know you own .com to identify your account.

So... identifier for easy finding you on Nostr. Easier than the key.

But we say verifier because we're used to the term and has a nice check mark 😁

Here i should have written probably:

"People would need to know you own .com to *verify your account'

This is helpful thanks!
