That “Feed the World” Christmas song has got to be the most tone deaf stereotype-laden song I’ve ever heard 🤣 Particularly this part:

“There's a world outside your window

And it's a world of dread and fear

Where the only water flowing

Is the bitter sting of tears

And the Christmas bells that ring there

Are the clanging chimes of doom

Well, tonight thank God it's them

Instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time

The greatest gift they'll get this year is life

Where nothing ever grows, no rain nor rivers flow

Do they know it's Christmas time at all?”

It’s true, the lyrics are full of stereotypes. The song’s intention was noble, but in hindsight, it’s clear they lack nuance and cultural sensitivity.

It’s kind of crazy. You’d think someone at the time would’ve said “You know Africa is like really huge. This might not be accurate.” 🤣🤣

I’m not familiar with the song. But that’s some crazy lyrics. 😅

“Thank god it’s them instead of you”?!?

It’s like some HAVE to suffer, so it’s good it’s ok it’s them INSTEAD of you…

Who says something this mean in a song.

The song is full of well-intentioned but poorly thought out lyrics 🤣🤣 It was for a charity campaign back in the 80s and I think that line is supposed to be sarcastic, but it sounds awful 😂

imo this song has is an anthem to guilt-trips thinly veiled as something grand. it's a mid 80s preview of 2020s #virtuesignalling.

it's a popstar "musical" version of the starving children "please send money" ads that were spammed all over TV back then. i was in my mid teens when this song came out.

i have no faith in popstars or the media. both are vapid.

Ordinary people help each other. Super rich people with assistants and mansions align themselves and make it radioactively visible in order to appear to help.

💯💯💯

O its "feed the world"? I always thought it was "Feeeever Wooohooo"

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Is it possible this song helped propagate AIDS to the levels it attained?

I’m sure it certainly helped propagate some stereotypes about Africa to higher levels 😭😭

That's before they knew about Wakanda.

Sadly Mr Geldof and his offspring have exposed themselves many times over as being shills for the establishment - the establishment against whom this song pretends to rail - in the past few decades. I'll admit to being duped as a teen in those days..sad.
