When did the Art of the Debate turn into a screaming match?

Is it just impossible today to have a difference of opinion, share those opinions in a respectful manner and then leave without there being any animosity?

Screaming match is common around me. I never saw a real debate in my life.

There was a time…… clearly it was long ago

Just can’t seem to engage on the topic of #China in any sensible way so decided to make my comment and toss it into the Nostr void.

几年前在一场辩论中看到,貌似是某次美国大选辩论,其中一个人说,你说的每一个字我都反对,但我尊重你说话的权利。现在不知还有这风度没。

It’s not impossible. Brain altering happened on a massive scale. Written long ago:

Below 👇

Crimson colored pills

Sprinkled into society’s news

Humans focused on survival

And lacking a feeling of love

Seek online spaces for attention

Dosed via electronic views

Dopamine hits abounded

Rage baited tragic hits

Altered intelligence

Then artificial intelligence

It’s not a “young man’s” loneliness that’s the problem. It’s lack of love. Many ages & generations feel unloved & seek it via online media & likes. On Twitter there are many “bots”

People get dopamine boosts when they feel another “person” reacts to what they said. Both good and bad. If someone engages they accept they are special.

“Having too much dopamine — or too much dopamine concentrated in some parts of the brain and not enough in other parts — is linked to being more competitive, aggressive and having poor impulse control. It can lead to conditions that include ADHD, binge eating, addiction and gambling.”

Tough request. I say “GM” and the other person says “conspiracy theory” before I can even ask how they are doing 🤣💜
