I don't think anyone ever tries to hide that fact.
Was having this chat last night at a meetup about custodians more generally and I have to concede that custodians will be a necessity mainly due to the abject laziness of the masses.

It is dumb to blame the masses. If devs want full decentralization they should make easy to install apk apps to run nodes and help the network that function on smartphones. People are lazy yes, but they also have a lot to do. They cannot spend hours and hours to set up a node that constantly breaks.
Pheonix, Mutiny and Zeus all do that today. Folks still use WoS and Blink and the like, myself included. I'm a self custody maxi and node runner and custodial wallets still have a place and use in my life.
