Signature checks are filters for Tx with invalid Sigs, but I heard that filters don’t work ???
Discussion
O h yeah: the “filters don’t work” argument is mostly right — when it comes to censorship. Trying to block OP_RETURN or inscriptions at the node or mempool level doesn’t really stop them; it just pushes them into other formats or relay paths. Bitcoin is designed to route around that kind of censorship.
But that doesn’t mean all filtering is bad. The problem isn’t filtering itself, it’s subjective filtering — picking and choosing what kind of valid data is “allowed.”
