I sometimes think that saying taxes are certain is just statist propaganda. There don't "have" to be taxes. If state coercion were no longer tolerated as normal and acceptable and only voluntary transactions become acceptable then perhaps humanity could make a step forward towards freedom.
Most of humanity didn’t pay any taxes until the 17th century.
If you can receive it, here is another error that the deistic Franklin may have slipped into the modern consciousness, besides the idea that taxation must be as inevitable as death:
