Their goal is to kill onboarding, not cause more of it. They don't want a good user experience because that would lead to user retention and more importantly a better reputation for nostr itself. That is famously why Apple has never implemented emojis
Hmm, you mean in iMessage? They've had them enabled a little while now, maybe two years, but they are slightly inconvenient to access. So one often sticks with the classic "haha, !!, ?" set.
