Can always follow them if they come back but why leave for nearly 2 years?

But how would you know they posted announcing their return if you aren't following them?

They can engage with my posts. Or if they have good content, I’ll see it reposted by others. If they don’t ever engage with my posts or post content that gets reposted, then what’s the point of following them?

Whatever the point of following them before was.

To engage with low time preference nostr users who are willing to stick around while it grows.

If they were worth following before, they're probably going to be worth following again is what I figure. If they come back I'll see them around. No fomo.

I have enough hassle managing follows of people who are active.

Not that much work. You can have a bot find the inactive npubs for you.

They used to be really unreliable, unfollowing active people they couldn't see because of relay settings. Haven't looked in a while.

The one I use doesn’t unfollow for me. It just tells me who they are then it’s just a few taps away.
