The difficulty adjustment is kind of acting like the Central Bank of Bitcoin. It’s raising the mining difficulty if hashrate gets too hot and cutting it, if hashrate is too low.

But unlike the Fed, changing interest rates only every few months at the most, the Mining difficulty is adjusted every two weeks.
