What paid relays do I use?

Why use a paid relay? 1) less spam 2) pay for a service that you're using.

How do you get less spam on a paid relay? Many clients allow you to pick which relays your global/universe feed comes from. This essentially gives global/universe a pay wall.

Paying for a service just feels right. Infrastructure and server resources cost money. People that run these pieces of nostr need to be paid for their work. This keeps nostr running.

Does each relay have a distinct purpose or just general notes on all? Can i reach certain users only on certain relays? Trying to get the most outta nostr here.

None of the ones I listed have a special use case. Some on Nostr do, such as allowing images to be uploaded.

What about bitstack.app?

I just payed 5000 sats for a relay:

I chose wss://nostr.bitcoinplebs.de (random choice to experiment)

My feed looks exactly the same... Are there any good resources anyone can point me to to learn what I just did?

If you go to Global, and tap the filter icon in the top right (on Damus at least) you can choose which relays to turn on and off.

You’ll find that disabling some of the free relays will reduce spam, and the paid ones will likely show more posts from people you follow or would likely engage with

I’m not familiar with that particular relay, but that’s the idea with paid relays in general

I am on amethyst, snort and iris

I think I only have the the played relay active but lots of the notes are in Japanese haha at least in the global feed

Do I have to curate from there?

Lol same. It's feeling a bit more like a donation than anything at the moment. Maybe spam or capacity will become more critical at some point.
