Additionally, the Black liberation movement (predecessor to the civil rights movement), wasnt keen on MLK being the "face" of the movement. MLK was seen as a late comer to the movement, but was more acceptable; being that he had a lighter complexion and spoke more for integration; whereas the Black liberation movement spoke more towards "separate but equal". Ultimately, MLK began to doubt his role in the movement. He pondered whether his endorsements did more harm to the Black community, than good.

Conversely, Malcom began to speak the unity and cooperation of races, after his pilgrimage to Mecca, as required by his religion. However, Malcolm was adamant in his warning the white liberal is the most dangerous political adversary to ever happen to the United States.
