Back then, conquering other countries was a fair business venture, supported by the king.
I'm not sure if grabbing what they can was necessarily low time preference. Maybe it was just so in bed with the crown that competition just wasn't allowed until the "company" itself was obsoleted by the crown?
I'm curious to watch some documentary on that ...
Conquering other countries has to be considered low time preference I think. In comparison to say, raiding.
It's the staying power and the long hard part that comes after the conquering that they saw through.
