Russia was lulled into a false sense of security by Merkel et al visa vi the Minsk accords.
Merkel herself is on record admitting that the Minsk accords were only ever intended to buy time so that the West/Nato could destabalise Ukraine and launch an attack.
Why did Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and annexed a big chunk of it? That all happened before the "terrorism" you are referring to.
Crimea seceded and joined Russia by referendum AFTER the west had sparked a coup and ousted Viktor Yanukovych.

But his argument has a point. Not the one he is making, but still. I believe the biggest problem is that our society treats border lines as a sacred cow. Honestly, I think it is a miracle that Czechoslovakia split so easily. But look for all the conflicts in Europe, cold and hot alike. Most of them are because some group wants to separate and govern themselves, but the larger group does not want them to. If CZ-SK split was a model and not an outlier, the world would be much more peaceful place.
The stupid part is that people want a government.
But if you take it even further into history, Czechoslovakia would have never existed if Woodrow didn't really hate Austrian empire.
He was the one who broken Europe to democratic republics and caused all the mess of ww2.
This want for government is a direct result of highly advanced division of labour, I believe it is inevitable.
I agree that the peaceful split of Czechoslovakia was mainly because the two states didn’t really have much in common apart from the language and that it was an artificial state. But that is actually the case for many states, at least in Europe, so our split should be the model, not an outlier.
Border as a holy cow is a great description. I remember arguing with a whole bunch of friends and acquaintances about deactivating and removing the original purpose of border protection, which is the idea behind Bělica's Bunker Cut: https://www.ondrejbelica.net/en/bunkercut I really liked the idea that the border is nothing more than an artificial line, but that only works if both neighbors honor it.

For me, the borders should return to their original function, which was the limit of a law system. They were not used to limit the movement of people, goods or capital. Those are all subsequent functions that were acquired later. But the original idea was: in this area we solve problems this way. If you like it, stay, if you don’t, go find another place you like better.
Someone could argue that all the restrictions (movement, trade, labor, etc.) are put in place by law, so the original function remains unchanged. (I don't agree, I'm just playing the advocatus diaboli for the sake of the argument.)

I think of borders as: this is not your property, you can't do/take whatever you want here. It's been claimed.
I think it’s almost the same as my view, at least in effect.
There are multiple levels of borders, each level includes all the previous ones: starting with personal space, then private property, municipality, region, and ending with the borders between countries. I don't know where I'm going with this idea, but instinctively, this multi-layered property changes the otherwise common perception of borders dividing cellular entities. Practically, who has the power to tell you what to do on your property? Someone whose borders encapsulate all of yours? Why is that? And why do we accept that (at least to some extent)?

To první není určitě výmysl francouzské revoluce, na tom byly postaveny už minimálně řecké demokracie. Pointa byla v tom, že pokud mají civilisté jít bránit stát, chtějí mít možnost ovlivňovat jeho podobu. Proto byla správa státu v rukou mužů, vůbec nešlo o to, že by byly ženy méněcenné, ale neměly v tomhle případě takříkajíc skin in the game.
To druhé je pravda podle mě jenom částečně - nemyslím si, že by problém byl až tak v demokracii, jako v národních státech. Národní státy otevřely úplně nový level pekla.
