⚡️🚨 NEWS - In July 2025, researchers discovered that a bacterium living in the deep ocean, Spongiibacter nanhainus, produced a very special sugar with spectacular effects on cancer cells.
This sugar, known as EPS3.9 is an exopolysaccharide - a long molecule made up of simple sugars - which plays a role in cell protection and communication.
When brought into contact with certain cancer cells, notably leukemia cells, this sugar triggers a mechanism known as pyroptosis, a form of explosive cell death. Unlike apoptosis ("clean" cell death), pyroptosis causes the cell to burst, alerting the immune system to attack the diseased cells.
In other words, sugar signals the presence of cancer to our immune defences, presenting it as an enemy of the body!
Laboratory tests on mice have shown a significant reduction in certain tumors, notably liver tumors + activation of the immune system!
This marine sugar acts both as a direct destroyer of cancer cells and as a catalyst for an anti-tumor immune response!
Still in the pre-clinical stage, this discovery paves the way for a new generation of treatments: targeted, natural, and potentially far less toxic than current chemotherapies.
As usual, I'll post the source as a comment.
