When I turned 18 I pretty much stopped going to the pub to drink because it was boring after that, and also drinking at the bar is too expensive. More than half the price of normal alcohol is taxes in Australia and when you drink at the bar it's about twice the price of normal.

A single beer at the bar costs about $10 here
