Should be possible with this, the esp32 all have an hall sensor integrated. Just played around with it, is a bit insensible but can detect direct/very close contact of a magnet reliably

i thought of the integrated sim module to be independent from wifi

Cool idea is just a bit too energy intensive to set up and forget for a year on a li-io cell I guess

i think a year can be challenging. but you may be able to switch on the sim module partially
