I'm thinking of starting with whatever's cheapest to freely waste paint while experimenting. I'm guessing acrylics would be it but I haven't been to the art store yet. It's very close by.

I have plenty of experience drawing digitally, but I never managed to get a feel of using digital oil/acrylic/etc brushes, always opting for cel shading instead. In the future, I'd like to make a painting to sell or display somewhere, just for the achievement.

See, I'm the opposite. I never got the hang of drawing digitally. But that's probably an age thing. I also take notes by hand instead of typing.

If you're looking for more budget-friendly options, start with canvass boards, they're cheap and cheerful. You can also paint over any that you don't like. Most student-grade acrylics are fine and you don't need to get a gazillion colours, primaries, black, and white will do. You can mix anything from there. There are really interesting texture mediums, but I wouldn't bother until you have figured out if you like it or not. You can also water down acrylics for some interesting effects. I wouldn't go for the absolute cheapest brushes, but you don't need to break the bank there either. You can always gradually upgrade.
