after a day... well, probably it's been nearly 5 days me trying to get this working nice, got it working to a degree but not like this, now it's smooth as butter

the magic was running my own coracle instance with

VITE_FORCE_RELAYS=

set to my test relay (which is being forwarded to via reverse proxy on my VPS on a domain name - it might work to even set it to a local one without the DNS shennannigans but i bet you'll have problems with TLS/SSL certificate authorities, so this is my recommendation: domain name, VPS, reverse proxy with letsencrypt, and the best part is you can demo it to people on the internet - set them up with coracle and with teh relay on the reverse proxy and voila)
