The Dominion of Canada was founded as a Christian nation. Our national motto is straight from Psalm 72 'A Mari Usque Ad Mare' From Sea to Sea. I remember reciting the Lord's prayer to begin the school day in the early 90's still.
I think the residential school apologia has more to do with demoralization of Canadians in the present. Fomenting guilt over mass graves that don't exist, largely pushed by left wing & foreign media. The residential schools were undoubtedly a dark period, but a lot of present discourse is tainted by false information.
