It is becoming increasingly obvious why EMPs are likely to play a larger role in the future, and with that, the end-time ahadith that speak of battles on horseback and with swords become more understandable.

Interesting take, would you elaborate? I have a few random thoughts, but I would like to hear more from you before I think of it fully.
As warfare becomes increasingly electronic, countermeasures (like EMPs) will also become more popular and continue to evolve. At some point, someone might disable all electronics for an entire region. See the Matrix movie. Perhaps there will also be no more electricity. I can't explain otherwise why we will be fighting with horses and sabers in the future.
Our growing dependence on electronics will cause our analog technologies to wither away.
