Also remember lions are apex predator but in some ways physically weak. Years ago, there was a chap in his tent in botswana who heard some snuffling behing his head on the other side of the tent. Grabbed his Maglite, swung back, hit something and went back to sleep. They found the lion dead not far away the next day. He'd clocked the poor thing on the head

Beautiful to watch. I caught this watching mum and dad protecting chicks. He fended off a couple of other ostriches coming too close, turned round and had to run after a jackal trying to take advantage of distraction. When jackal ran off, he turns round to find the ostrich pair getting to close and this was the resulting face-off. Incredible show. Wish I had the higher res camera but great moment to catch. Maybe need some photo editing time to add a little purple!
