I used to use Spotify... Dropped that for Fountain...

After the app got worse and didn't nostrify, I moved on to using Breez for my podcast player.

As of late it keeps exiting after a few minutes, so now I'm using Podbean.

Anyone got a better player? Or maybe I should just be loading podcasts on a disconnected device? Whats your advice here?

antennapod. It just does podcasts and it does them well.

AntennaPod. Give up on the v4v podcast BS. If you want to support people, donate them directly or zap them on nostr.

What about the 4v4 podcast ecosystem do you find to be bs?

IMO, the platform provides a service and deserves compensation. The DJ or whatever also deserves compensation for collating the content. The artist/presenter (in the case of a radio show) obviously deserves compensation as well.

All of the splits happen automatically, in the spur of the moment, and with one touch. You can write messages so it's interactive and creators can see what and when you're zapping. It's arguably more seamless than having to figure out each of the ppl who are actually creating the content > find their socials > DM to get a wallet > send them value. That just seems so manual and not something 99.9% of ppl are willing to do. V4v only works when it's frictionless. Most ppl aren't gonna go out of their way to donate.

What platform? Podcasts work with RSS feeds, podcast clients are just specific RSS readers. Podcasting is decentralized by design.

You already have nostr and other social platforms to leave message, no need to use bloated podcast apps for that.

Like I said, nothing prevents you from zapping podcasters directly.

Podvasting 2.0 V4V design is very centralized, the payment stats are aggregated in 1 or 2 places that act as a truth authority. You can't make a "boostagram" on your own using your own LN wallet, you have to use custodial crapware.

Sats streaming is even more retarded. Instead of paying 10k sats at once in the end, make 5000 payments of 2 sats where 50% just gets lost as fees to LN routing nodes.

Do I really need to go on?

Wrong choice of words. Meant to say client, not platform.

Sounds like your gripe is with the implementation and builds? We are early days and nostr clients had similar inefficiencies at the start (and quite frankly we aren't there yet). I think the underlying ideas and intentions are sound. It's more of the execution that needs refinement, evolution, and further decentralization, or at the very least, more foss implementation.

I tried to warn you and gave you a clear list of reasons. If you want to keep insisting on broken bad tech because some influencer conviced you it was the future, that's on you.

I use it and enjoy using it. Not sure what "influencers" you're speaking of. Is it flawed, sure, but it's better than legacy systems and evolution takes time.

It is worth mentioning I also use podcasting 2.0 on both sides of the fence.

As someone who hosts RSS content, the podcast 2.0 systems currently in place are far far better than what exists elsewhere. Again, there are improvements that can be made. But I wouldn't go so far as to call it broken bad tech that requires "warnings" 😆 a bit dramatic there bud.

I do appreciate you having specific criticisms and I don't necessarily disagree with the things that you say are wrong. But coming from an industry that's significantly worse off, the current implementations, with all its flaws, are magnitudes better and significantly less predatory than what came before.

If we only waited to use products that were 100% perfect and followed the highest morals and ideals to a T, we would never ship or use any products. Strive for perfection but understand that it's not truly achievable. All we can do is be better than yesterday. Podcasting 2.0 is better than the legacy system.

nostr:npub1t8cmt7hjnyz0a99x5ppw9kpdsrtglst26aj3aw5s4r0rna3l3l5qk89gm4 is my daily driver. It’s FOSS, cross platform and even has a F-Droid version.

PodcastGuru is also great.

commenting to know because i’m struggling w the same. i’m currently on wavlake, and it’s been pretty decent. have you gave it a try?

Wavlake is good but typically only for music. See my other reply, I have a few suggestions on there. I usually use PodcastGuru.

oops i was too sleepy and didn’t read “podcast player” my bad.

however, there are some music shows in wavlake, mostly music-focused but could be something to look into

None are perfect but I like PodcastGuru, Podverse, and TrueFans. Curiocaster is pretty good on desktop but unusable on mobile.

AntennaPod is the best FOSS podcast app I've used, but, there's no zap integration. But it works. All the time. Without fuss.

I still have pocketcasts for the silence trimming (I have it in MAD MAX mode). Saved countless hours. I used to boost through podverse but got sick of the custodial only option. I'm out of patience for v4v. I'll try again when there's a nostr native podcast app.
