there is no such thing as race to be honest

is somebody living in Siberia European or Asian ?

there are a lot of Russians that look this way. it's not because one of their parents is Asian - rather it is from centuries of mixing ( and from having been invaded by Genghis Khan )

my 1st GF had just a hint of Asian look to her, though weirdly her parents did not.

I'm just thinking about race from the standpoint of a discrete physical and cultural entity rather than visible types which is the way most people define it. It makes more sense to me to think of race in this way. Relative to white Americans, Hispanics seem like a race - they're clearly "not us" and no one thinks they are, and they are easily lumped together from our perspective.

There probably were relatively pure types at the end of the last Ice Age when most populations were relatively stable and adapted to their local niches. Since the age of civilization with everyone moving around the concept of distinct types has become less and less viable over time. I mean, sure, they still exist visibly but as you say there was already a lot of race mixing even long before the industrial age made people hyper-mobile and it has only sped up since then.

The example you used of Siberians is a classic one - obviously there is Northeast Asian ancestry from across the steppes since a long time. You even see that in the Nordic countries though they never admit it (Nordic blondes with a hint of Asiatic features - most common in Finland but also not uncommon in Sweden, etc). And it's integrated enough that such phenotype variability can skip generations since those are just surface characteristics and any given generation's outward expression can depend on the entire genetic inheritance.

yes some Scandinavian women can look Asian for example Sophie Arvebrink

because Finland is just 2,500 miles from Mongolia - the same distance as from NY to LA

and of course Spaniards, Italians, Greeks and even French are not that far removed from Turks and Egyptians - they're all Mediterranean so to speak

as for Latinos in Florida well you have Marco Rubio who speaks Spanish and you have Anna Paulina Luna who recently led a trip to El Salvador

Ted Cruz is from Texas but his pops is Cuban so he may as well have been from Florida

are they a "different race" from "us" ?

you might as well argue that Scandinavians are a different race from Greeks and of course some people do make that distinction "Med vs Nord"

but what really counts is income level. income levels in Florida are pretty low compared to say Massachussetts ... but also income levels of Mediterranean countries like Greece and Spain are lower than that of Scandinavian countries ...

so you can think of Florida as Greece and Massachussetts as Sweden

Greece is sort of a gateway to MENA ( Middle East North Africa ) and Florida is a gateway to Caribbean and Latin America in general

and Texas and California are a gateway to Mexico and central America

and by the way countries like Greece and Spain are popular retirement destinations for the same reasons Florida is

but what i like about Florida is that even though half the people speak Spanish at least officially English is still the language

and anyway Spanish is not a hard language and is generally useful, unlike say Greek
