Tutanota has a lot to like about. Post-Quantum encryption (really?), no ads, no tracking, cheap or even free, open source, anonymity. But I don't know why I don't feel sure at

all.

What are the real cons of tutanota?

Why do you dislike or why did you stop using it?

Connecting over their Onion address works, but you cannot register a new account that way, so it's kinda useless.

Actually I had problems creating an account. There was an error message saying it is not possible to sign up from my actual IP address. No VPN, no Tor, no my WireGuard to home or directly on home's wifi. Only through, mobile data... 😵

Been using tuta for two years now

Its nice but I want good search and to use traditional mail apps

This is all lost on tuta

Its a lot of work to change rmail addresses and I would leave them if I could

I am stick with them for a few more yearss at least.

Overall, its not terrible,Tuta is kinda nice but fucking sucks by not offering imap access

Thanks a lot 🙇‍♀️

That was my first "what?" The no IMAP.

Reading I found the reasons for this and the "why not PGP" and so on.

I think the mail address changer is a good point, but wasn't enough, at least for me.

The search indexing is slow as fuck

The rollout of features is slow as fuck.

The encryption scheme is highly opinionated and has no support for GPG

There is no support for any other clients, except their desktop and web clients.

You really only gain privacy through communicating with other Tuta users or by sharing a symmetric secret through an external channel with a recipient at a normie email address.

Low interoperability, that's an issue.

The same happens with other mail options: privacy features are only useful if your contacts use them too. So Tutanota is not a solution IMO.

Thanks 🥲

I think they are the best worst option. At least they were when I was comparing them to proton.
