In 1993, during the great Mississippi flood, a man named James Scott had the brilliant idea of deliberately damaging a riverbank by removing sandbags.
The aim was to keep his wife on the opposite bank for as long as possible so that they could continue partying with their friends.
However, the breach caused about 14,000 acres of land (about 57 km²) to flood and James was arrested and convicted of intentionally causing a catastrophe.
