We have learned during our nearly 20 years of beekeepers; colony collapse disorder, purple brood, foul brood, varroa mites and whatnot are all not nearly as destructive as habitat loss due to development. I can believe the number you stated because I see rampant pillaging of the wild areas, upon which bees/pollinators/ecosystems rely for survival. If our land was not protected by Forever Wild on one side and National Estuary protection on the other, our bees would be in a terrible fix, and their/our honey would not be unique and flavorful.

I’m so glad to hear your area is not as impacted. Hope better protections can be put in place because they are so integral to healthy ecosystems!

About an acre of wetland north of my garden. Besides good soil management I give this area most of the credit for my excellent results. It drys up in may and refills in November.
