It can be, but the incentives aren't aligned for bad echo chambers, like Reddit is.

They get more visibility for having "the right" opinion with upvotes. Bring controversial gets you to the bottom of each page. It rewards group think.

Good point, it definitely does reward the hivemind. Small subreddits are fine, but anything on r/all is unreadable.

nostr still has the advantage of being small though, I'm old enough to remember small reddit and it was fairly good for diverse discussion back then.

I usually check out Canadian subreddits, just to get a pulse on what news are being propped to the top.

The subreddits that don't have anything to do with regular news are much better, but the politics get throughs sometimes. The r/yugioh sub decided to ban posts from X haha
