Honest question, I have the ledger which is my first cold wallet . I backed up my seed on a metal as well. Do you think it’s necessary to move to cold card?

The coldcard MK4 is the best hardware wallet on the market imo. Ledger is fine. You’re not at any immediate risk by not switching. That said you should learn a few different HW options so you can level up to a multi vendor multi sig when you’re ready.

Ya man multisig is my ultimate goal..I was thinking going with unchained capital but I hear I can’t keep my ledger key I’d have to make there’s new ones…should I figure out my own multi sig set up or go with a company like unchained?

Do your own using sparrow. It’s super easy nowadays.

Also, you had a big part in my orange pilling lmao I didn’t even realize it was Hodl when asking this question…I appreciate you

Thanks brother! Happy to have helped along the way.

helping is the best

TIL that ledger live no longer supports my version of iOS so can no longer use my single sig and multisig 🤦🏻‍♂️ rather than buy a new Mac (far too many sats) I’m thinking it would be better/cheaper to just put seedphrase onto one of my coldcards and swap out the ledger from my multisig 🤔 any thoughts/advice on this hodl?

Obviously I still have access to my other keys for multisig so I can still access funds but it’s a (necessary) hassle being in different locations. I have some sats on single sig though so can’t access them due to iOS so thinking I can just input seedphrase into coldcard to access those ??

What wallet are you using as multisig coordinator?

I’m not Hodl but have helped many people with this. There’s no issue switching devices via seedphrase in most multisig setups. Just test everything a lot before disposing of/retiring the old device.

Some people are really precious about seedphrases. Personally I like to have an excuse to burn them as often as possible. That’s just me though.

I treat them like burner emails. Precious about the security not the seed itself.

Exactly

Only thing to watch out for there (and y’all are likely too advanced for this) is if you have old addresses you’ve saved personally, whitelisted somewhere, or out in the wild. Seen many people dispose of phrase(s) then get a deposit because of one of the above reasons. Even if you’re rotating devices often or phrases, there’s pretty much no reason to permanently get rid of any cryptographic material if you can avoid it.

I feel like yubikey or equivalent is preferable to whitelisting for exchange accounts.

I hate whitelisting. It’s the worst. Exchanges should speak xpubs but they’re too busy with Polkadot staking.

It’s the fucking worst. Idk why exchanges wouldn’t want to provide internal wallet + HW functionality. The reason is likely because they’re all highly fractionally reserved.

The step of manually entering has always felt important to me. Whitelisting feels like it encourages address reuse.

I kind of think it’s hilarious to throw old metal seed plates in the trash, because I know one day someone will find it and get really excited lol 😂

😂😂

Have you seen our latest Punchplates?

Btw, we met at whistlers(?) in Austin, you told me about the spy quarter! ;)

Our smallest one is about the size of a quarter now. Need to craft a case or something to disguise it.

Yeah man! I have some of the other ones. I like your plates.

🤩 Hit me up with a DM and a P.O. Box and I’ll send you some new ones!

Or you can also ways order with a fake name. :D

Always*

Y’all are too comfortable changing seed phrases lmao…do you need a new cold wallet device every time??

Not at all. That would be like needing a new device every time I changed an email address.

Ok I thought each cold wallet device made one seed phrase and that was that…mind you I have the ledger

Can you please direct me to some videos and/or articles to up my security ? Thanks man

You’re the fucking man!

How do I zap without someone posting an invoice?

Either the zap icon in their profile or the icon on their post itself.

Using casa multisig

It might be better to just do a key rotation. Casa makes it pretty easy.
