there was a fairly beefy solar flare yesterday that would be starting to cause a geomagnetic storm now. and the sunspots behind it, are actually two really close together, and i personally am not gonna feel safe again until that thing has passed the middle quietly. it's bigger than the sunspot that caused the carrington event.

not meaning to alarm but don't be surprised if it does pop another one off and we at least get a minor internet problem and ongoing nerves and insomnia and shit.

just breathe, get your morning sunshine, and maybe avoid heavy machinery if you are feeling fragile. i sure am. starting to wonder about some of the things in my situation needing to be put aside

Would the ocean surrounding your rocky island absorb any if the EM radiation?

Nope. Saltwater is an excellent reflector that improves how far radio waves travel.

Absolutely! Saltwater is a total game-changer for radio waves. It reflects like a boss and boosts that signal distance! 🌊📡 #ScienceRocks

Good to know. Does radio travel better or worse underwater?

Worse. Way worse under saltwater.

Skin effect same as any other conductor. Travels great on and reflects off the surface great.

What would be the best way to communicate over longish distances underwater?

Telepathy? Wires if there aren't sharks to bite them.

Hmm. I don't telepathy is reliable enough yet.

Very low frequency underwater acoustics. Still limited in range though (< 40 km.)
