Pre 1992, 1 and 2 pence coins in the UK were made of 97% Copper 2.5% Zinc and 0.5% Tin.

Post 1992 coins were Steel and electroplated Copper, because the Copper metal was worth more than the coin.

This scam has been running for a long time.

In 1992 Australia gave up on 1c and 2c coins and took them both out of circulation as they were worth fuck all!

They were pretty annoying to be fair.

So little value.

I still remember picking out 1 & 2 cent lollies at the milk bar.

Nowadays, people don't bother to pick up a dropped 5cent coin.

How long till the $1tn note 🤣

I remember that when i was in the UK a decade ago.

Some pence were reactive to a magnet, while others were not.
