Is this worth mining with these days? Is there anything recommended for less that $1000 to mine BTC?

I think it largly depends upon your electric rate. IMHO the sats will eventually always be worth it, and If you have a need for some heat then it's an absolute slam dunk.
What he said. Long term can't lose. Reuse the heat some how
I found a refurb for $258. Seems too good to be true.
I'm no expert but I've found second hand units in that price range. I'd make sure it has a compatible power supply for your needs
Thanks. I don't even know what my needs are. Unless it can help me finish building a chicken coop.
Assuming you are in the U.S. you'll probably need a power supply for 110v (typical wall outlet), unless you have access to 220v which these units do like more and run more efficiently on (220v is what we typically use for the dryer, electric stove, and large equipment)
They do put out a ton of heat and noise. If you need heat for a chicken coop then this is a viable option. Look up some videos on YouTube to make a heater out of one of these.
I have an S9 running as a space heater. It's a lot quieter after upgrading the fans, but that's an additional expense. The PSU fan is the loudest, and cheaper to replace. I use the Braiins firmware which allows me to set a target wattage. They run a little more efficiently at a lower wattage too.
It's unlikely to be "profitable" but use the waste heat and consider that you're paying the full price for non-KYC Bitcoin I stead of giving up your privacy for a discount.
That is more my mindset going in.
