Don't get me wrong, nostr.build and nostrimg are awesome homegrown solutions, but I'm surprised Amethyst is the only client so far that has made use of Imgur's API!
It looks like a pretty solid option as far as I can tell, and they've already proven to have the infrastructure for it.

imgur is a short term win (and desirable rn tbh); however, more sustainable is a spec, so that users can choose/bring their own image uploader. as long as it conforms to spec, clients can list whichever they desire

Yes, that is so true. It's a real handy feature to upload images straight from the amethyst client which makes it so easy to use.
