Thats awesome! A whole new rabbit hole for you to dove down! 😁

Rpi are expensive now, and probably wouldn't be the hardware I would suggest if I was building my own today.

I would go for either something like a rockpro if you are set in a single board type thing, or preferably a small computer like:

Much more robust and stable than a pi and won't use that much more power. And these days not that much more expensive really either.

Latest model of Rpi cost more or less 100 usd, sudden surge of price, 35 usd compared to the firsts models. In case I'll go for other boards, is it possible to install umbrel in it? Or onother software?

Yeah it's definitely possible to run umbrel on one! Are you planning on running a ln node as well as the bitcoin node?

Not the full node, just the lightning, atleast somehow I can contribute something to the network. I

Ah fair play! Although I think you have to run the bitcoin node to run the ln node. Anyway, you will be best off having a l1 wallet backed by your own node when coming on and off l2!

I did not know that I should run parallel l1 and l2. I do understand that I can run LN for routing transacrion only.

Yes you will be able to run a routing node. Lightning interacts with the base layer, its just an app on top of bitcoin, so it's kind of one and the same.

I will figure it out once I have the righr hardware. I will check the link you've sent me and heed on your tips, I appreciate your information otherwise I will regret my move later.

But no fear, I think the umbrel package will do all the heavy lifting for you once you've got it started up.

I hope it will run smoothly once I have it running. And how about your experience now with your nodes? Bitcoin and LN?

No I only run a bitcoin node, I would like to run a ln node at some point as a project, but I don't really use ln much apart from on here, so the costs of keeping channels loaded and balanced don't look worth it in my use case at present. When there are more merchants and services who accept ln then I will, as at that point transacting on ln rather than bitcoin l1 makes complete sense.

But I love running my own bitcoin node. It's been a great learning project and I'm happy that I can use bitcoin a bit more privately, and being able to verify, and not trust!

Man, you excites me. I can't wait to hold and run my own node. Hopefully sooner than later.

Yeah running your own node is very rewarding! You should document your journey on here! 😁

I will probably try to.
