if a democratically elected candidate runs unopposed i.e. not against another democratic candidate and “wins” is s/he actually democratically elected?

both times donald drumpf ran he ran essentially unopposed as neither candidate he ran against was the nominee by the democratic electorate. first time the candidate was bernie who was blocked and this time there was none.
