If you think about it, Democracy was a response to corrupt Monarchy. But in its reactionary nature, it still maintains the underlying principle that an arbitrary State "authority" gets to tell others what they must do, or violence will be done against them.
Its crazy looking at how far back this normalization of oppression goes.
Well. Corrupt elites, anyway.
Athenian democracy, for example, was in response to the previous ruling Archons.
