Making biochar at work. I'll likely have to take it home to use, as the boss committee and committee boss don't understand the value of adding carbon back to the soil. They think the branches and leaves I use to make it and compost are "unsightly." I could spread it here and no one would would even notice, but I have bigger plans for it anyway.

Is that a custom unit?

Built it myself, yes. Based on all the information I found on the kon tiki biochar kiln and a little math. I was going for as big a possible a kiln that would fit the city code for "recreational" fire pit. I intended it to be collapsible, but haven't actually ever taken it apart as it fits nicely in the back of the pickup.

Is it just sheet metal?

Yeah. A little under half sheet 5'x10' 18ga mild steel if I remember right. I made 2. The other one (poorly welded) was stolen from the back corner of the church parking lot where I work.
