Sabrina Abuka, 16, from Plaistow, was “lowest in the class” in English and hovering around a grade 6. She also regularly racked up 12 hours of screen time per day. After ditching the distraction of social media for the school year, she achieved a top grade 9 in English on results day. She was predicted a 7 in Chemistry and Physics and got an 8 in both. “I didn’t have any self-control and it was so distracting,” she says. “I used to spend my time on TikTok and … I spent it revising.”

Mohammad-Amin Opayemi, 16, from Canning Town, previously found it “very hard to focus” and went one step further, leaving his phone with the school for the duration of the day. “Staying away from social media took away the distraction,” he said.
